How To Disable Windows Error Reporting

Almost every Microsoft Windows user will have seen the Windows error reporting dialog box at some point in time, usually when an application has crashed and has to be temrinated in an un-expected manner.

The premise of the the error report is that Microsoft will gather information about the crash to try and improve Windows and provide a solution to the person who submitted the report. In truth, very few people receive any news from Microsoft and the error reporting is nothing more than an annoyance.

With a little work it's possible to disable the error reporting feature so that you won't be plagued by the dialog boxes again.

  • Click the Start button.
  • Select the Run option.
  • In the dialog box type msconfig.
  • The System Configuration Utility will now open.
  • Select the Services tab.
  • Untick the option marked Error Reporting Service.
  • Click OK
The change will take place once you have re-started your P.C.
